B-101 Steel SS Koppelschloss [Belt Buckle]
SS buckles made from steel are nearly always associated with the
SS-VT, or Waffen-SS. This example has a nice obverse with good insignia detail
(no real wear), but some of the matte silver wash finish is lost – mostly
along the right side. The exposed steel is still fairly light, but there
is a bit of light oxidation as well, mostly around the 4 - 5 o’clock position
along the insignia roundel. The reverse on the other hand, has about 97% of the
matte finish still present, though again there is some light oxidation within
the recesses of the stamped insignia. The belt hook catch is the narrow
diameter, “U” bar type with the flanged, flat feet on the bottom of the end
posts soldered to the buckle face. There is oxidation to the underside of the
roller bar sleeve. The markings on the buckle reverse appear along the right (as
viewed) inner edge just below the roller bar, showing a double-ringed RZM mark
followed by the maker’s code and date “155 / 40”, then a double-ringed set
of SS runes. Sound display piece!
