B-108 SA Wehrmannschaften (Internal
Defense / Home Guard Units) Buckle, in Aluminum Textbook
This type of buckle was introduced in 1943 and was worn by all ranks
on a black leather belt. The Wehrmannschaften buckles have only been encountered
in stamped aluminum, and only by one manufacturer: M4 / 22 (the RZM code
for the maker C.Th.Dicke) - which firm apparently made approximately
30,000 of them. The buckle has a slightly domed roundel bearing a political
style eagle (up-angled wingtips), with body and wings superimposed over the top
arch of the roundel ring. At the bottom arc of the ring, there is a half wreath
of oak leaves. The buckle detail is excellent and the matte aluminum obverse is
very clean not mint, but pretty darn close! The reverse is excellent, though
with traces of perhaps some glue from the back of a sticker in one small spot
and a few tiny scratches. The left side edge (as viewed) bears a tiny RZM
mark, and the raised RZM code M 4 / 22. The buckle has the molded-in style
of belt hook catch. Overall an outstanding example of a textbook SA
Wehrmannschaft buckle these are becoming ever harder to find.
