B-116  Quite Scarce Justice Official’s Buckle; Assmann Marked
Very nice example of this rarely encountered circular buckle, as worn by a Justice Official. The circular buckle has an outer wreath of laurel leaves surrounding a smooth surfaced, domed center with a short winged national eagle. The wreath surface is very nicely arched, it definitely looks a bit like a thick, well-rounded holiday wreath for the front door. The domed center is quite high, with the eagle wings curving around the sides of the dome. The buckle finish has toned very dark, with the patina shifted to an almost coppery tint. There is a very small amount of verdigris at the bottom edge (6 o’clock position) which would easily clean up, if you chose to do so. The flat horizontal center plate mounted on the back of the buckle is stamped in the center with the distinctive Assman maker logo, a DRGM notice, and the date number (37). The attached keeper frame has lost most of its gilt finish, leaving a dark toned aluminum showing. Very scarce buckle in finely aged condition.
