B-120a Police Other Ranks Koppelschloss [Belt Buckle], in Pebbled
Aluminum Alloy
This buckle is a nice example of the usual, two-piece construction style with
the separately stamped insignia roundel being mounted on the buckle face by
means of small tabs passing through slots in the buckle surface (bent down on
the reverse). The buckle is quite light due to the aluminum content in the
alloy, but the presence of inferior metal as well (likely some zinc) gives
the finish a notably grey cast. The detail is very crisp, both on the roundel
and on the buckle’s pebbled surface as well. The center of the roundel has a
very slight, very hardly noticeable dip / dent. The buckle reverse shows traces
of what was originally a shiny silver wash, but very little of this now remains.
The catch is the rounded, half-dome style. Fine piece!
