B-125 Kriegsmarine (Navy) Officer Buckle for a
Brocade Belt
The Navy’s brocade (dress) belt buckle differed considerably from
those of the Army or Luftwaffe in that the design motif did NOT include a
swastika. The buckle shows only a large, fouled anchor (i.e. rope wrapped around
the anchor) motif, encircled by an oak leaf wreath (the leaf tips creating an
irregular outer edge). There is considerable relief to the anchor, and nice
detail to the leaves that form the buckle’s outer edge. It is in excellent
condition, with 100% of the gilt finish on both obverse and reverse. The reverse
has a circular mark enclosing the maker’s initials (appears to be) “ESJ”.
A single fixed keeper (missing the finish) is attached as well. A near excellent
example!
