B-209a Political Leader’s Brown Leather Belt and
Buckle
This great example appears to have been together forever! The Havana
brown leather belt is approximately 2.25” wide, which is the smaller width.
The obverse is excellent, with minor wear and discoloration where the buckle
catch has been in contact with it for all these years. The same goes for the
reverse. The leather slide, as well as the gilt metal keeper (which is
maker marked the same as the buckle), is present. The adjustment tongue is
stamped by the manufacturer, this reads “L2/665”, to go along with a RZM
motto. The underside of the tongue is ink stamped with additional maker’s
information. The belt (underneath the tongue) is double stamped with sizes, both
“150” and “135”. It is definitely neither of the two, as it measures
43” in length (size 38/40 waist) which is approximately 109 cm. There is
another ink stamp in this area that isn’t quite clear, what I can see reads
“Leib_____”, possibly a District or Depot name. The buckle, which is near
excellent overall, measures 57 mm (2 ¼”) across. It retains a solid 95% of
its gilt finish! The insignia detail is outstanding. The buckle reverse, with
its attached flat bar (one end curves over to form the open catch, the other is
completely rolled over the keeper frame with prongs), is nicely marked with a
clear RZM insignia and the maker code M 4 /46 for Wilhelm Schröder & Cie of
Lüdenscheid. The attached keeper is excellent as well! A great set overall!
