C-003 Set of Sew-In Boards (Cut Bottoms) with
“A” and “4” Ciphers, for a Panzer Enlisted Man
These boards have a really interesting dark green facing in high
quality, super short napped wool/felt. The color has perhaps a tiny bit of black
blended in for darkening – but there is none of the blue that was later added
into the hue for the standard badge cloth color. The material is in excellent
condition, with no sign of any mothing. The pink Panzer branch edge piping is
also in fine condition. Each board has a gothic letter “A” (during the
pre-war period, the “A” cipher would have indicated employment in an Armored
Reconnaissance role) chain-stitched in pink thread directly on the board
surface. Beneath this is a small number “4” cipher, similarly
chain-stitched, indicating a Recon assignment in the 4th Panzer Battalion (part
of the 1st Panzer Division). The sew-in base of each board has been cut across
in a (relatively) horizontal line. Perfect for a display!
