C-030  Set of Sew-In Shoulder Boards for an Army Pioneer Hauptmann (Captain) with Unit Ciphers “4” – Salty
A somewhat worn set - but for those who like that real combat use-look, they’re perfect! Both  shoulder boards came off of the same uniform – the degree of wear is a perfect match. The boards are in semi-matte aluminum braid, with some surface wear. Heavy soiling, and on one in particular, a darkening that may have been caused by blood from a neck wound. The black underlay is the branch color of Pioneer Troops (Pioniere). Each board has two nicely toned gilt pips for the rank of Hauptmann. Between the pips is the gilt numeral cipher “4” – this identifying Pioneer Battalion 4 (in May 1941 re-named Panzer Pioneer Battalion 4), which served in the Polish Campaign, the French campaign and in Russia (including the Crimea). It served at one point under the 13th Panzer Division and saw action through 1945. Very interesting boards – great branch color, intriguing combat staining.  Very cool!
