C-725a Variant, Machine Woven (BeVo) 21st “Waffen”
Gebirgs-Division
“Skanderbeg” Cufftitle
This very rarely encountered cufftitle is for “Waffen-Mountain Division of the
SS Nr. 21 (Albanian Number 1)”, with the title name: “Skanderbeg”. The
Unit was only in existence for approximately six months before being broken up
due to the apparently incorrigible unruliness of it Albanian Muslim personnel
(though under a German Officer Cadre, many of whom had originally come from the
Leibstandarte). This cufftitle is likely for an Enlisted Man; the Division
title “Skanderbeg” is machine woven (BeVo) in what reference book author
Ulric of England appears to refer to as the “BeVo-like weave 1” pattern -
letters in grey thread across the face of the band, with segmented border
stripes at the top and bottom edges woven in the same (grey BeVo and the reverse
side in salt and pepper pattern. The title letters appear as a negative
image (reversed) within a denser band of thread). The cufftitle measures just
over 19” long, with the ends being unfinished, which is exactly the way they
are supposed to be. The Skanderbeg cufftitle is one of the most rarely seen,
particularly in condition as nice as this one!
