D-005 Letter from The “Secretary of State,
Foreign Ministry”, with a Pair of Business Cards Attached

One of the business cards is from the “Lithuanian Ambassador
Edgars Kreewinsch”, and one from “Reinhold von Saucken, German Ambassador”
(and an SS-Obersturmbannführer). Von Saucken was also an SS Officer (Obersturmbannführer)
serving on the SS-Hauptamt Staff. He notes on the card “congratulations on
your promotion” (presumably to Hewel). These two business cards measure 2.2”
by 3.5” and are attached to the back of the letter from the Secretary of State
of the Foreign Ministry (official letterhead), who notes: “Dear Hewel!
Haven’t seen you yet since your promotion, so will have to be satisfied with
sending you best wishes this in this fashion....(and more)”. With an original
von Weizsacker signature, the business cards have a punch hole at the lower
left. They are adhered with a strip of white tape to the letter (which measures
approximately 8.75” by 6.75) and has a trimmed right edge.
