D-119 Wehrmacht Driver’s
License (with Possible Bullet Hole Damage?) For Edward Furlius
Neat example, though with some very heavy wear and some damage to the
piece, just inward from the spine. The peculiar shape of this indicates
what may be possibly a bullet strike! There is an accompanying folded paper with
the license, identified as a “Shießliste” - a shooting / firing list,
which recorded how accurate a shot he was. There are entries in pencil on the
list (both on the front and the inside) which appear to identify weapon
qualification dates. One entry indicates “handgrenade”.
This list was stored in the driver’s license, front side up (but upside down)
at the same time. The position of the hole and ancillary shredding
of the paper Schießliste page lines up exactly with the license booklet. The
license is a bit fragile, with wear to the edges (crinkling). Ferlinz
served with Feldpost number 57867 B - 1 Kompanie, Reserve Panzerjäger Abteilung
5 based in France. The license
is for a Class 2 Internal Combustion Vehicle (Verbrennungsmaschine) for
light goods vehicle (truck 3½ ton). Really intriguing pair of documents.
