D-172  Scarce NSDAP Party Book with Very Low Number (157 188), for Erwin Knefel, Who Joined the SA and Then the SS
This is the 1927 edition of the NSDAP membership / party dues book, issued to Herr Knefel in 1929 when he joined the Party. There is an excellent picture of Herr Knefel in the book, and the condition overall is lightly soiled (covers), but otherwise very good with flat cover boards and no corner snubs and a nice, sound binding. Knefel‘s occupation is noted as “Pfleger” (depending on the context, “male nurse”, or “curator”). The book has a good number of colorful party dues payment stamps for several years in the early 1930’s and an excellent, brief handwritten recommendation that indicates he was one of the founders of the branch where he served, starting from 1929. Handwritten notes on page 22 (in purple pencil, with an ink certification stamp in green) indicate that Knefel joined the SA in 1930, reaching the rank of Truppführer by 1932. In March of 1933, however, he transferred over to the SS, and was promoted to SS-Mann in August of that year (the SS entry is signed by an SS Obersturmbannführer, commanding  SS-Sturmbann I/2. A really cool party book – much better than the average!
