D-177 Kriegsmarine Soldbuch for U-Boot
Crewman Ob. Fk. Mstr. Max Baesler
This Soldbuch belonged to an NCO sailor who served on U-875, which perhaps
fortunately for him saw training from April of 1944 to February of 1945, but
never sailed on any operational assignments. The book is in good condition, with wear to the
binding of documents, with the Soldbuch somewhat worn along the binding, and
lightly dog-eared to the lower right corner, but otherwise in solid condition.
The interior pages are all intact, though some are separated from top or bottom,
to the first staple. There is a fine photo of Baesler in his double breasted
blue tunic, and the book has quite a lot (8 pages!) of clothing entries,
indicating service in tropical as well as temperate climate zones. Baesler also
served during the Spanish civil war, as his awards include the Spanish Cross in
Silver with Swords (1939) and several Spanish awards. Others that he accumulated
during his service career were the 4-year faithful service award (in 1937), the
Cruiz Roja (1939), the Medalla de la Campagna (1939), the Sudeten Annexation
Medal (1939), and the KVK II with Swords (War Merit Cross 2nd Class) (in 1942).
There are many assignments listed with the last being with the U-875 and
there are a few handwritten entries at the very end of the war and one written
in July 1945, as well (regarding pay) as well (terrible handwriting its
excessively rounded and hard to read). A very interesting book.
