D-203 Letter from SS General Karl Wolff to a
Fellow Named “Likus”, with Original Wolff Signature
On official letterhead of “The Reichsführer-SS, Chief of the
Personal Staff” this typed letter adds the notation “z.Zt.” (meaning
“zur Zeit” = at the present time / currently) “Führerhauptquartier”.
The document classification notes “Personal!” and “Closed”
(closed, limited access file). This communication is through Wolff on behalf of
concerns from Himmler regarding German ambassador to The Hague, Graf Zech
(Julius Graf von Zech-Burkersroda, ambassador from 1928 until relieved in 1940
– less than a year from the date of this letter), about whom “he has
received repeated reports from both the Dutch and the German sides concerning
Zech NOT meeting the Foreign Ministry requirements in terms of the behavior
expected from subordinates by the Foreign Minister. In particular, there are
issues with regard to Zech’s “personal demeanor” and his association with
certain of the “most diverse” personalities (individuals)”. Wolff
indicates that Himmler would like to hear the opinion of Foreign Minister von
Ribbentrop regarding this situation! Great condition, a hint of coming ignominy
for Zech, and a perfect original Wolff signature. Please note: the
darker areas/discoloration in the pictures are caused by the scanner and not
present on the document.
