E-103 Three-Quarter Size 98K Miniature Bayonet by
Unknown Maker
This is the flat style 98K bayonet, measuring approximately 9.25”
in overall length. The pommel and quillon show wear to the silver plated
finish, in addition to having abrasive scratches throughout. The pommel
edges are crisp, while the surfaces remain smooth. The grip plates are
black bakelite, showing a beautiful checkering throughout. The plates are
retained via two rivets with dressed obverse heads. The blade measure
5.5” in overall length. It is the style that has a fuller design, but
without a ricasso. The obverse side contains a one line etching in block
lettering (F. W. Backhaus, Ohligs / Solingen). The edge and tip is factory
crisp, while the spine contains a couple of minor nicks. The obverse and
reverse ricasso areas contain smudging, scratches and minor pitting.
Sounds much worse then it really looks! The scabbard is the black painted
flatter style, remaining straight throughout. The paint easily grades 99%!
A DIFFICULT miniature to find on today’s market! Strong excellent.
