E-115  SCARCE Diplomatic Official Dagger – by Alcoso
This is a beautiful, untouched example that remains in VERY collectible condition!  This would surely satisfy the advanced and most sophisticated collector!  It is an early example, having outstanding quality throughout.  The fittings are textbook Alcoso with the silver plating grading 99.9%, to include the side plate.  The plating has been cleaned since the war and is again showing the beginning stages of a new patina.  The top of the eagle head pommel and the edges exhibit mild carrying wear while the spanner nut holes display turning signs.  The hand-cut accent lines, which flow downward from the bird head top, are quite deep and nicely toned.  The bird’s eye and side beak details are GREAT!  The edges to the beak and back head area display a couple of faint carrying signs.  The ferrule has the typical Alcoso, hand-cut twin decorative lines.  The grip plates have an appealing softer off-white color while reflecting the swirl and twirl pattern, grading mint.  Striking!  The Alcoso Diplomatic Eagle is a much higher quality eagle than the Alcoso Government Official Eagle.  The impressive out-winged eagle is looking to the RIGHT, which faces in the OPPOSITE direction to the eagle head pommel.  The upturned wings are NICELY formed with the bird having beautiful detail to the head, beak, feathering, talons, wreath and the raised swastika in the center.  In addition, the wreath is larger around the swastika which makes for a noticeable difference in the shape of this symbol.  The QUALITY, flawless blade of this example is a REAL beauty!  It is completely mirror bright with 100% crossgraining while retaining a needle-like tip.  The edges remain crisp.  The reverse ricasso is etched with the early Alcoso trademark featuring the company name arch-lettered in block style lettering above the scales.  The scales have the Alcoso initials, ACS interspersed.  Below is the name of the producing city, Solingen.  The medium brown leather blade washer is in place, grading strong excellent.  The scabbard is the fabulous Alcoso style remaining straight throughout.  The silver plating easily grades 99.9% with fine pebbled panels appearing on both sides.  There are a few small areas of spidering to the silver plating.  NO worries here!  The bands are well-executed having a highly detailed mix of overlapping oak leafing with acorns mixed-in.  Upon closer examination, you can see that there is hand checkering to the acorn tops.  The eyelets are the triple serrated style having built-in sleeves at the ring clearance holes.  The scabbard throat is the thicker variety being retained by two small-bore side screws that are period turned.  A terrific and very desirable example!  Government daggers are around, but NOT the Diplomatic model!  DON’T pass this up!  Mint-.
