E-200  Personalized Imperial NCO Artillery Sword With Triple Engraved Blade by WK & C
This piece was part of a very large militaria collection!  The large-sized hilt is the nickel plated Dovehead design showing minimal wear or age.  The hilt is illustrated on page 160 in the Johnson/Wittmann Imperial Weapons Book with the exception of the grip, which is black celluloid over wood.   The plating rates at least 99% with the loss confined to the pommel top.  There is some light pimpling to the finish which should clean up nicely, although I’d leave it alone.  The black celluloid grip is near perfect showing minimal wear to the highlights!  It is tightly wrapped with triple twisted silver wire not sharkskin.  The reverse languet is masterly crafted with the initials of the original owner.  These are very fancy but look like FJC. The P-guard and crossguard edges remain crisp.  It is untouched and uncleaned. The 33” triple engraved blade is bright and shiny having the wide fuller construction.  The nickel plating remains at 100%!  Very nice!  The spine and tip are crisp while the edge contains a very, very tiny nick which is hardly worth mentioning!  Common among all plated sword blades, the lower half exhibits light in and out scratches.  The blade has 14” of engraving to each side in addition to the spine.  The frosting rates 100%.  Beautiful!  The obverse blade is engraved in the center panel 4. Garde = Feld = Artillerie Regiment.  Above the center panel is a cameo containing crossed cannons and oak leaf sprigs while the below cameo displays a mounted cavalryman with sheathed sword.  The reverse center panel contains an artillery caisson being pulled by mounted horses.   Above the center panel are two horses heads resting on laurel and below is the rare starburst Guard insignia.  Beautiful!  The spine is also beautifully engraved with laurel leafing.  The blade easily grades Near mint!  The obverse ricasso is stamped with the W.K.& C. King & Knight logo that was utilized at the turn of the last century.  The washer is missing to time!  The black painted scabbard is the style having a fixed scabbard ring.  The paint easily grades 96% with paint spiders and light surface scratching throughout.  There are two tiny dimples to the reverse side, while the obverse side is straight.  A beautiful example for the discriminating sword or Imperial collector!  Excellent.
