E-202 Imperial Triple Engraved Army Cavalry NCO Sword
With Blue Panels by Carl Eickhorn
Needless to say, any blued panel swords are RARE and in GREAT
demand! This is the style having the nickel plated hilt which shows
minor wear/age. The plating easily grades 97%. It is completely unadorned, but very stylish and, I might add, elegant! The edges
throughout display minor “edge wear while the surfaces exhibit the typical faint scratches. The grip is
black celluloid over wood being
wrapped with triple twisted silver wire with the center wire being larger. There is a small
crack to the upper reverse side
exposing the wooden base. In addition, the wire is intact, but loose! The
32.5" nickel plated blade is bright and shiny being triple engraved. The blade edge has numerous
light nicks as does the lower portion of the spine. The tip is needle crisp. The blade has
14.5" of engraving to all sides, in
addition to the spine. The obverse blade contains three panels with
the center panel being engraved “Prussian Reiter Regt. No. 10” Now for
the best part! The center panel has a gorgeous blued background,
grading near mint. What a look! The 3" panel to the right
contains crossed cannons, a drum, crossed lances, flags and floral while
the panel to the left contains crossed flags and an Imperial eagle. The
remaining portions feature a beautiful floral design with a stunning frosted finish. The reverse center panel measures
6" in length
and depicts a long line of charging lancers led by an Officer carrying
a sword. Like the obverse side, it exhibits a beautiful blued
background, grading near mint. To the right is a 3" panel
exhibiting a bugle, drum, flags, sword and floral. Finally, to the
left is a 2.75" panel with crossed flags and a sword and on top is
the Imperial eagle and floral. The spine is beautifully detailed
with a floral design. The blade is a most elegant work of art, rating
excellent due to the blade nicks, but looks much nicer then that! The
obverse ricasso is stamped with the early Carl Eickhorn trademark
comprising double oval circles. Lying between the circles is the
company name and location Carl Eickhorn / Solingen. In the very
center lies the Eickhorn squirrel over the company initials “C.E.” The
scabbard shell has seen better days! It appears to have a very old poor
re-paint with the black color grading 50% at best. The shell
appears to be straight. Despite the minor liabilities, a TRUE work of ART! Very
good.
