E-203 Personalized Imperial Infantry Officer’s
Sword, Model 1889 With Damascus Blade and Distributor Mark
This is an elegant example that would surely satisfy a true
connoisseur of blades. The hilt is solid brass, being normal in size with
the original factory gilding grading at least 99%! The entire hilt is hand
embellished by a true craftsman! It is equipped with the folding clamshell
option featuring a raised-out crowned Prussian eagle with a WII on its breast
which signifies Wilhelm II. The clamshell is in perfect working order.
There is also a leather finger holder still intact, grading strong excellent.
The pommel top is hand engraved with the original owner’s initials JC.
Stunning and magnificent! The grip is the sharkskin variety exhibiting
minor highlight wear in a couple of spots, but still retains its purple/blue
color. It is tightly wrapped with twisted silver wire with the center
strand being larger. Affixed to the grip is a gilded crown over RWII.
The Damascus blade is the band pattern measuring 28.5” in overall length.
The spine and tip are perfect while the blade edge displays a few minute marks.
The blade has a double fuller design with an extra long ricasso area. The
obverse blade houses a gilded area measuring approximately 14” in length.
The long ricasso exhibits the phrase “Zage nir!” which means “Never Hesitate” while on either side appears a raised glided floral
depiction. To the left is a more elaborate gilded floral design. The
reverse ricasso contains the date August 1911 flanked by a matching gilded
floral design. As is the case with the obverse side, to the left appears a
matching elaborate gilded floral design. The spine has the raised out
distributor and military accoutrement house M. Neumann, Hoflieferant Berlin.
The blade easily grades mint-! The blued scabbard shell remains in
remarkable condition for its age, having two faint dimples to the obverses side.
Surprisingly, the blued finish easily grades 95%. The scabbard throat is
retained by two domehead side screws that exhibit minor turning signs. NO
higher quality! All I can say is MAGNIFICENT! Mint.
