E-204 Imperial Prussian Cavalry Sword, Model 1889,
With Double Engraved Blade by Weyersberg & Company
The nickel plated hilt has a beautiful aged patina, with the plating
grading 100%! VERY nice! The hilt edges exhibit very minor hits,
which, considering it’s age, is outstanding! The surfaces remain smooth.
The folding Prussian eagle hand guard has beautiful definition while showing
light wear. Thankfully, the guard remains in perfect working order (Collecting
the Edged Weapons of Imperial Germany, Volume I, pages 153 and 154).
The black grip shows very minor wear in the form of scratches and faint nicks.
BEAUTIFUL hilt here! The 32” double engraved blade is the nickel plated
style that remains bright and shiny. NICE! The blade edge and spine
are crisp, while the tip displays a minute hit. Additionally, there are a
few faint runner scratches to the lower portion of the blade. The obverse
blade is engraved with three panels with the center panel etched 2
Bad.Drag.Regt.No21. Above the center panel is a small panel housing an
engraved horses head. Finally, below the center panel is a mounted
Cavalryman carrying a spear. The reverse blade also displays three panels
with the center panel exhibiting a Cavalry charge against an Infantry line.
The smaller panels above and below contain cross flags, swords, lances, and
bugles. The blade easily grades strong excellent to near mint. The
lower spine is engraved with the maker’s name and location, Weyersberg &
Co. / Solingen. A light brown leather washer is intact, grading near mint.
The scabbard is the anodized variety having a fixed carrying ring. The
anodizing rates 85%! In addition, there are a few minor speckles
throughout. The shell has a nice hit to the lower obverse side. A
VERY NICE Imperial sword! Strong excellent.
