E-209 Imperial Mining
Official’s Sword With Triple Engraved Blade and Distributor Marked by P. O.
& Co. (Early Pack)
This piece is from my personal collection! The hilt
design is very similar to the one illustrated in the Angolia sword book, page
276. The hilt is the standard gilted brass construction with approximately
95% of the gilting intact. Beautiful! The surfaces are in
outstanding condition showing very minor wear/age with some light surface
scratching. The languet features the “Miner’s crossed hammers” in
silver showing beautiful definition. The grip is the early sharkskin
variety showing minor wear/age. It is wrapped with triple twisted brass
wire with the center being larger. The 32" triple engraved blade is
bright and shiny. The lower 2" of the obverse and reverse tip area
has some deep peppering and a tiny hit to the tip. In addition, the lower
6" appears to have been extensively buffed. The obverse and reverse
sides of the blade are beautifully engraved with a “floral scroll motif”.
The obverse center panel is engraved “Gluck auf!” which means “Good
luck” while the reverse panel features a “pick with crossed hammers and oak
leaves”. There is some minor smudging on the obverse and reverse ricasso.
The blade grades very good! This is a very conservative grade on the
condition! The obverse ricasso is stamped with the owner’s logo being
the “small Siegfried figure” over the company name “P. O & Co.”.
The revere ricasso is stamped with the distributor’s name “Mohr & Speyer/Hoflieferanten/Coln”.
The red felt washer is present. The scabbard is NOT the typical leather
variety, but is metal with one scabbard ring. This is totally original to
the piece! The factory black paint is bright and shiny grading at least
98%! Beautiful! The lower scabbard area, approximately 2.5"
above the drag, has sustained a hit to both sides. A difficult sword to
locate! Excellent.
