E-226 Army NCO Sword With Triple Engraved Blade,
Model 2 by F. W. Holler
The hilt design is illustrated in the Angolia Sword Book, page 88,
upper, and is unadorned with beautiful nickel plating. The plating grades
99% with faint freckling throughout. The entire hilt shows minimal
wear/age, grading near mint-. The black celluloid grip is the style having
a wooden base. The upper portions of the grip exhibit crack lines to the
obverse and reverse sides. It is tightly wrapped with triple silver wire
with the center being springy while the outer strands are smooth. The
massive 35” triple engraved blade remains bright and shiny, grading near
mint-. The spine edges and tip remain as crisp as the day they were made,
while the blade edge contains a couple of faint hits. There are the normal
faint in and out surfaces scratches to both sides. The obverse center
panel features a 5” charging artillery caisson led by a charging mounted
officer with drawn sword. To the left and right of the panel contains a
beautiful floral design. The reverse side portrays a 2” center panel
housing crossed cannons/drum/crossed lances/flags and floral. In addition,
the spine displays a beautiful floral design. The reverse ricasso is
etched with Holler double oval circles trapping the company name and location F.
W. Holler / Solingen. Inside the center circle is the famous thermometer
logo exhibiting outstanding detail to the depiction. The large, thick
black leather washer is intact. The scabbard is totally straight!
The scabbard paint has seen much wear/age, grading 85% in addition to having
scratches and some paint spiders throughout. A FINE example!
Engraved swords have all but drying up on today market! Excellent.
