E-228  Army Officer’s Sword, Prinz Eugen Model 1765 With Knot by Carl Eickhorn
This desirable example was just purchased as part of a very large blade collection!  The hilt design is illustrated in the Angolia Sword Book, pages 82 and 83, lower.  The hilt has a dark appearance with faint oxidation pebbling with the finish and lacquer, grading 60%.  Sounds much worse than it really is!  The pommel top has a raised-out closed winged eagle clutching a swastika exhibiting outstanding detail throughout!  The remainder of the backstrap is plain, with the exception of a couple of large oak leaves at the tabs and one at the lower backstrap.  The P-guard is for the most part plain with the exception of two oak leaves at the bend point.  The celluloid black grip is in beautiful condition and is void of the common scratches that you encounter on most celluloid grips.  It is tightly wrapped with triple silver wire with the center being twisted while the outer strands are smaller and straight.  The guard portrays a beautifully detailed open-winged eagle showing outstanding details while exhibiting the slightest signs of highlight wear.  Attached to the hilt, in the correct Army regulation tie, is an original sword knot displaying minor age to the leather, grading excellent.  The nickel plated blade is very collectible, measuring a long 34.5” in overall length.  The edges and tip remains factory crisp with faint in and out marks.  The only detractors are the minute speckles scattered throughout both sides.  The reverse ricasso is stamped with the Eickhorn over the shoulder squirrel post-1941 logo and below is the word Original and beneath is the company name and location “Eickhorn / Solingen” (Volume I, page 28).  The blade grades excellent+!  Normally the washer is the thin red leather style, but in this instance it is a thick black washer.  The fine scabbard is dent-free with the original paint rating at least 97%.  There are few paint spiders here and there which DOES NOT detract from the overall grading or appearance of the scabbard.  A key sword for you Field Marshall Collectors! Excellent.
