E-230 Early Army Dovehead Sword With Oakleaf
Langet by WKC
This example is very similar to the example illustrated in the
Angolia Sword Book, the WKC pattern No. 29A, page 135 left, with the exception
that this piece contains the engraved oak leaves on the obverse langet vice the
eagle and swastika. The hilt is the early solid brass style with a gilded
finish which shows wear/age grading an even 80% with thinning throughout.
The pommel, backstrap P-guard and ferrule are adorned with engraved oak leaves
and acorns. Exquisite workmanship here! The black bakelite grip
displays a couple of faint scratches probably caused by storage or the owner’s
ring. It is wrapped with triple, twisted silver plated brass wire with the
center stand being larger and twisted in the opposite direction. The
reverse langet is blank while the obverse langet is adorned with two crossed oak
leaves. The nickel plated blade measures approximately 32” in overall
length with the plating at 100%. The spine edge and tip is factory crisp
while the lower edge contains one small nick. The obverse ricasso area is
stamped with the famous WKC logo containing the Knight’s head and immediately
below are the company’s initials WKC. The blade grades mint-. The
dark brown leather washer is intact, grading strong excellent. The
scabbard shell is totally straight to all sides. The original factory
black paint shows wear/age in the form of paint spiders, rust to the lower drag
and lifting. Sounds much worse then it really is! This is a MUST for
the serious Sword collector for pieces containing the oak leave langet are
extremely RARE! Excellent.
