E-230  RARE Personalized Army Officer’s Lionhead Sword With Documentation Belonging to Hitler’s Army Aide-de-Camp, Reinhold Schmidt (Model 237) by Robert Klaas
This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to own an outstanding piece of history with full Veteran documentation!  More on this later!  The hilt design is illustrated in the Angolia Sword Book, page 102, lower.  It is of the highest quality having a very heavy brass base with hand enhancing throughout!  The fire gilding has not faired well over the years with only remnants remaining to the recess areas.  The Lionhead pommel shows outstanding definition in addition to having two faceted piecing red glass eyes.  The backstrap and P-guard consist of oak leaves and acorns while the ferrule exhibits oak leaves and acorns sprigs.  Nice details throughout!  The grip is finely executed and well preserved being black celluloid-over-wood.  It displays NO chips, cracks or scratches being tightly wrapped with triple silver wire with two smooth outer strands while the center strand is twisted and larger.  The crossguard shows a fan-like open winged eagle facing to the left with the bird holding a wreathed swastika.  The reverse languet is professionally engraved with the owners first and last initials RS.  Now for the best part, the sword is complete with the vet’s documentation setting forth the details on how he acquired this magnificent piece from the Munich home of Reinhold Schmidt who, as it turns out, was Hitler’s Army Aide-de-Camp.  FABULOUS PIECE OF HISTORY!  The 33” long nickel plated blade still retains the mirror appearance displaying little or no age.  There are the normal light runner marks to the lower one-third of the blade.  The edge, spine and tip remain crisp!  The reverse ricasso is stamped with the kissing cranes trademark having the firm's name and location appearing in a circled around the birds, Robert Klaas / Solingen.  The brown leather buffer is intact showing much age, grading very good.  The scabbard shell is straight throughout with the original period black paint remaining bright and shiny grading 98%!  Gorgeous!  There are the common minor paint spiders throughout both sides, but nothing that detracts from the overall beauty!  The two domehead side screws are intact and untouched!  An outstanding sword of the highest quality!  The new owner will have loads of fun with all the research possibilities!  Strong excellent.
