E-230a Army Triple Engraved NCO Sword by Paul Weyersberg
This piece is from my personal collection! The hilt of this example is the
“nickel plated” variety being bright and shiny. It has some very minor
wear and a few tiny specks, mainly confined to the pommel area. The black
celluloid grip is perfect, being wrapped with triple brass wire with the
centerpiece being twisted and larger. The lower three wraps are a little
loose with the lowest wrap missing the outer strand. The crossguard shows
minor wear to the surfaces and the edges, grading at least strong excellent.
The extremely long 35.5" triple engraved blade is bright and shiny grading
near mint! The blade features beautifully executed “floral etchings”
with a small “focus panel” on each side (Angolia Sword Book, pate 43, second
from top). The backgrounds are frosted to highlight the bright work!
Magnificent! The obverse side portrays “three crossed swords and
floral” while the reverse side features “crossed cannons/drum/crossed
lances/flags and floral”. The reverse ricasso is etched with the
Weyersberg “double oval circles” with the “sword-within-the-wreath
shaft” logo. In between the circles are the name and the location of the
firm “Paul Weyersberg/Solingen”. The leather washer is gone to time!
The scabbard is straight throughout! The original paint is bright and
shiny conservatively rating 90% with the wear evenly dispersed between both
sides. Although the scabbard is missing paint, it really is a beautiful
sword! A must if you like engraved blades! No sword collection
should be without ONE engraved NCO sword! It would look beautiful on one
of my acrylic sword stands! Excellent.
