E-234  Army Officer’s Sword, Prinz Eugen Model 1765 by Carl Eickhorn
The Prinz Eugen model Eickhorn sword is in MUCH demand by the collecting community!  This piece was recently acquired as part of a nice sized sword collection and is illustrated in the Angolia Sword Book, pages 82 and 83, lower.  The hilt has a pot metal that was gilded; however, over time it now renders an odd greenish appearance which is a characteristic of this model sword.  The finish grades 98%.  Again, typical of this model sword the finish exhibits pimpling throughout.  The upper pommel portrays an impressive raised out Wehrmacht eagle, which clutches a swastika, while the crossguard portrays an additional very wide open winged eagle clutching a wreathed swastika.  The definition to the eagle is outstanding!  The underside of the hilt is NOT patent stamped.  The P guard shows minor edge wear probably resulting from storage.  The black celluloid grip is in near mint condition, displaying a couple of faint scratches to the upper obverse side, but NO chips or cracks.  The grip is tightly wrapped with triple silver wire with the centerpiece being twisted and larger while the outer two strands are the smooth variety.  The nickel plated blade measures 33.5” in overall length, displaying a very shiny appearance.  The blade edge and spine are factory crisp while the tip shows a slight hit.  The in and out marks are light!  There is some freckling to the area in and around the obverse and reverse ricasso.  Accordingly, the blade grades strong excellent!  The reverse ricasso is stamped with the Eickhorn 1935-41 Squirrel trademark.  A thick dark brown leather blade washer is intact.  Although this model sword normally has a thin red leather washer, this washer appears to be original to the piece.  The scabbard shell contains a mild depression to the lower reverse side. The original factory black paint is very nice indeed, grading 98%.  There are the normal paint spiders and faint scratches to both sides.  The scabbard throat is retained by two domehead side screws that are unturned.  A nice example that was worn by both SS and Army personnel!  Excellent.
