E-235 Army NCO Ordnance Sword With Finger Loop by
Alcoso
This example has an unembellished plain brass hilt which was recently
cleaned by a former owner thereby rendering a beautiful like-new appearance.
The pommel, crossguard and P guard display numerous carrying marks to the
surfaces and edges. The black celluloid grip exhibits faint surfaces
marks, but NO chips, cracks or deep scratches. It is wrapped with double
twisted brass wire that is a little loose. The lower backstrap and ferrule
are nicely stamped with the Waffen-Amt marking. In addition, the underside
of the hilt is also stamped with two Waffen-Amt markings with one appearing on
each side of the langet. The right underside of the guard also contains
the maker’s initials AC/S while the opposite side contains the ordnance serial
number 515a. The 28.5” blade retains a bright and shiny appearance.
The blade is the variety with a wide fuller. The spine and tip remain
factory crisp while the blade edge contains a couple of very faint nicks and I
mean FAINT! Additionally, there are a few minor smudges to both sides
rendering a strong excellent rating. The reverse ricasso is stamped with
the early Alcoso trademark. It consists of the company name and location
block lettered in an oval circle Alexander Coppel / Solingen. The center
contains the Alcoso scales with the company initials intertwined ACS. The
top portion of the spine, nearest the guard, contains a Waffen-Amt stamping
while the underside is stamped with the number 3. The leather washer is in
place. The anodized scabbard exhibits a couple of faint taps to both
sides, in addition to numerous scratches. The anodizing displays even
wear, grading 90%! The obverse side of the scabbard throat area is stamped
515a which perfectly matches the hilt stamping. The reverse side is
stamped AC/G and beneath is a Waffen-Amt stamping. A very presentable
piece that would look fantastic on a wall display. Excellent.
