E-235a Army Officer’s Dovehead Sword, Model 204
by E. Pack & Sohne
The hilt design is illustrated in the Angolia Sword Book, page 110,
upper right, which is the E. Pack & Sohne, Model 204. The hilt
is the solid brass variety having a rich greenish tinge appearance that truly
takes your breath away. The entire hilt has been embellished with hand
engraved oak leaves and acorns. The pommel, P-guard and crossguard
exhibits little to no wear/age. The black celluloid grip is the style with
a wooden base containing one crack to the upper, reverse area. It is
wrapped with triple twisted wire with the center being larger. The obverse
langet is adorned with a closed-winged Army Eagle clutching a swastika that is
hand chiseled into the brass. Magnificent! The reverse langet is
unadorned. The long, 33” steel blade remains bright/shiny in addition to
having the normal in and out marks. The edges and tip are crisp.
There are a couple of minor smudge marks to both sides which I believe will
clean-up nicely. The blade easily grades strong excellent to near mint.
The reverse ricasso is etched with the large Siegfried Waffen trademark
portraying the hammering Siegfried, under an arch. The original thick
leather washer is intact. The long scabbard is totally straight to all
sides. The original black factory paint is bright and shiny, grading at
least 98%! Spectacular! The scabbard throat is retained by two
domehead side screws that appear to be replacements. A NICE example!
Excellent.
