E-248 Personalized Army
Officer’s Lionhead Cavalry Sword With Triple Engraved Blade by Paul Weyersberg
The early heavy hilt is solid brass construction with
outstanding hand chiseling throughout having the best work you’ll see on Third
Reich produced swords! Love these early pieces! The cat’s head is
very impressive having great detail and two very large “red faceted glass
eyes”. The cat’s hair has been hand enhanced. The blade tang is
beautifully fitted into the design of the cat’s hair. The backstrap and
“P” guard are decorated with beautifully detailed “oak leaves and
acorns” while the obverse languet is adorned with “crossed swords”.
The quillon ends in a magnificent and highly detailed “lion head” in a
roaring appearance. The reverse languet has a shield with the initials
“ELF” scratched into the surface. Personalized pieces add a lot of
character and appeal to any blade! The triple engraved blade is bright and
shiny, grading strong excellent! The blade is 31" in length showing
the normal in-and-out marks with some light speckling here and there! The
blade easily grades near mint! The obverse and reverse blade contains
floral depictions with a center panel. The obverse panel contains “cross
swords” while the reverse has ‘crossed cannon, standartes, pikes and other
war implements”. The upper spine contains beautifully detailed “laurel
leafing”. The reverse ricasso is adorned with the Paul Weyersberg logo.
It features the “two oval circles” containing the firm’s name and location
in between “Paul Weyersberg/Solingen”. The inside features the logo of
an “excaliber sword” positioned between “two wheat shafts”. The
scabbard paint appears to be a very old repaint and rates 98%! There are a
few minor hits to the lower scabbard drag area on the obverse and reverse sides.
A very nice engraved piece that is getting harder to locate in any condition on
today’s market! Excellent.
