E-392 Late-Period Army Officer’s Dagger With
Nickel Finish by Anton Wingen
This is a classic Wingen late-period Army dagger that appears
unissued! This nickel plated example is typical of the late-period Army
daggers manufactured by the Wingen firm (Volume I, pages 74 and 75). The
pommel is the 14 standing leaf type exhibiting NO real wear/age (Volume I, page
114, type C). There is some faint bubbling to the top surface, but NO
worries here! The grip is an off-white color showing some age soiling and
highlight marks resulting from storage. It is the Type C-gp showing
minimal wear/age (Volume I, page 12). The ferrule is not the standard Army
type, but rather is a 2nd Model Luftwaffe ferrule! That’s right, a
Luftwaffe ferrule! In fact, this Army grip was only fitted to accommodate
the 2nd Model Luftwaffe ferrule! Not an uncommon finding on late-period
Army daggers! The crossguard is the B type Generic showing NO wear/age to
the surfaces or edges (Volume I, page 99). The nickel plating displays
minor bubbling to the reverse side! The polished blade is mint-! It
remains bright and shiny, having 100% graining. The edges and tip is
factory crisp. The reverse ricasso is etched with the little knight
trademark having the firm’s initial’s over the logo A.W.Jr. Below, is
the company location Solingen. A thick dark brown leather washer is intact
being the larger style (Volume I, page 18, lower). The scabbard is the
Generic type that is common to this manufacturer during the later years.
It is nickel plated, totally straight and perfectly matches the hilt (Volume I,
page 74). It is totally straight! The thin scabbard throat is
retained by one, center-placed, reverse flush mounted, headless screw. A
MUST for the Army type collector! Mint-.
