E-437a Early SA Dagger With Hanger by Hugo Linder
Deltawerk (SCARCE Maker)
This is a CHOICE example for the discriminating collector! It
was recently purchased at a very large “hotel” buy. The solid nickel
fittings have NOT been cleaned and reflect a very nice patina throughout.
The guard edges are still crisp with fine smooth surfaces. The upper guard
is internally marked “H” while the lower is marked “P.A.”. This is
NOT a reason for concern, as many original early examples are either unmarked or
mismatched. The reverse lower guard is Gau-stamped “Nrh”. The
grip is a real beauty with the obverse side having a gorgeous vertical grain.
The color is medium brown on the obverse side, while the reverse is reddish
brown. The contour ridge is the medium style, displaying minor wear/age.
The grip-to-guard fit could not be better! The SA runes button is the
convex style having approximately 50% of the surface displaying light chipping.
The nickel grip eagle is the point behind the head style, showing only modest
wear across the highlight surfaces. GORGEOUS grip here! The blade is
a real GEM, especially by today’s standards. It remains bright and shiny
with 100% graining to both sides. The edges and tip is factory crisp.
The runner marks are very light. The SA motto “Alles fur Deutschland”
is still very precise, while the backgrounding grades 100%. The reverse
ricasso is matching etched with the firm’s name and location, Hugo Linder
Deltawerk, forming a ¾ circle with a flat base. Inside appears the
company logo consisting of a triangle with a spearhead-shaped leaf lying in the
center. Accordingly, the blades grades near mint. The blade
shoulders perfectly fit the lower crossguard contour. The scabbard shell
is straight throughout! The anodized finish grades 95% while the factory
lacquer grades 70% with most of the lacquer wear appearing to the obverse side.
The upper fitting has NO dents, but does contain a few faint surface scratches.
The lower fitting exhibits minor carrying marks to both surfaces while the ball
has taken some hard hits rendering a flat appearance. The nickel domehead
side screws are all intact and matching while showing period turning signs.
Mounted to the scabbard is an original short brown leather hanger that is
complete with the retaining strap. The fittings are nickel with the snap
clip being unmarked. The leather hanger is also correctly unmarked.
It shows much wear and age, grading very good to excellent-. A GREAT
opportunity to acquire a MOST desirable dagger by a SCARCE maker! Strong
excellent.
