E-441 Early 1933 SS Dagger by Robert Klaas
This piece is totally original and would be a very nice starter
piece! The nickel fittings throughout have been cleaned in recent years by
a previous owner. The guards are internally marked St on either side of
the tang clearance hole which is one of the two recognized caster marks utilized
by the Robert Klaas firm (Volume IV, page 34). The guards have seen some
carrying/storage wear to edges and the surfaces. The reverse lower guard
is sideways stamped with the Roman numeral I (Volume IV, page 35, upper and
middle). The ebony grip has a medium contour ridge showing mild usage
while still maintaining a beautiful black color (Volume IV, page 44, lower
right). There are some stress fractures to the upper and lower grip areas
on the obverse and reverse sides. Finally, there is also surface chipping
to the upper obverse side and the lower reverse sides. The SS runes button
lies at the 12:30 and 6:30 positions and exhibits minor wear/age. The SS
runes button is the convex variety (Volume IV, page 49, below). The early
nickel eagle is a real gem being the high necked style displaying just the
slightest signs of wear to the highlights (Volume IV, page 51, lower). The
blade is bright and shiny with crisp edges and tip. There are smudges
throughout both sides in addition to the common runner marks and superficial
scratches. The SS motto “Meine Ehre heist Treue” is crisp with a
thinning background, grading 80%. The blade easily grades excellent-!
The reverse ricasso is etched with the Robert Klaas trademark (Volume IV, page
16, below). It consists of the kissing cranes in the center with the
company name and location block lettered in a circle around the logo Robert
Klaas / Solingen. The scabbard shell has a minor dimple to the lower,
reverse side. The original anodizing and factory lacquer are almost
completely gone due to wear and cleaning by a previous owner. The matching
nickel fittings display carrying signs in the form of dimples. The four
domehead side screws are intact and show signs of being turned! A DECENT
starter piece! Very good.
