E-441 Model 1933 SS Dagger with Documentation
This piece is being offered “as is, as found”. It has
solid nickel fittings throughout, including hilt and scabbard. Hilt fittings are
totally uncleaned. The reverse of the bottom of the crossguard is deeply stamped
109555 (more on that later). Under this, you can also see the Roman numeral I
for the SS group. The early black grip has lost virtually all of the black
patina and when you first look at it you might think it is an SA grip but it’s
not. The early nickel eagle and enameled SS button are still firmly attached to
the obverse of the handle. The grip fit is phenomenal and the appearance is
still attractive. The black enameled paint on the scabbard is old and is 90%
complete. The bottom scabbard fitting has multiple nicks and is slightly dented
at the boot. The blade is marked on the reverse with the SS runes, the RZM and
the contract number 120, followed by 34 (120/34). This is the earliest SS
contract number and date to be authorized with the RZM markings. The previous
owner did some research which indicated that this number 109555 was assigned to
SS Private Paul Trautsch, III/47.SS-Standarte. Additional research indicated
that there were no other files on this SS Private, but it still may be worth
looking into some more. Here’s an opportunity to own a documented SS dagger in
overall good condition!
