E-441b RARE 1933 SS Himmler Dagger With Hanger by
Carl Eickhorn
You can NEVER have enough of these Himmler Inscription Honor Daggers!
This piece was part of a mid-sized dagger collection that I recently purchased.
I’m always looking to add choice merchandise to my inventory! It is a
textbook example that remains in VERY collectible condition! Enjoy!
The fittings throughout are the solid nickel style, having been cleaned at some
point in the past few years! The crossguard edges retain their crispness
while the surfaces are smooth. The upper guard is caster marked with the
letters “HE”, which is one of the two most common caster’s marks that are
found on early Eickhorn SS daggers (Volume IV, page 34). However, the
lower guard is highly encrusted with oxidation thereby making the caster mark
unreadable! NO worries! The accent grooves to both the upper and
lower guard is again the typical Eickhorn style having deep, hand-cut grooves
(Volume IV, page 30, below). The lower guard has the inspection stamping
number 4, which is a common finding on these pieces (Volume IV, page 113).
The ebony grip exhibits some carrying/storage wear in the form of taps, faint
scratches, stress fractures and few areas of repairs. The grip is the
medium contour ridge variety (Volume IV, page 106). The SS runes button is
the nickel style being slightly convex in the shape and is installed at
approximately seven and one o’clock positions (Volume IV, page 48, upper).
The solid nickel grip eagle is the high-necked variety retaining crisp while
highlights (Volume IV, page 50). VERY NICE hilt here! The blade
remains bright and shiny with full factory crossgraining. The left edge
and tip remain crisp while the right edge displays two faint nicks. The
runner marks are the norm for a Political dagger. The SS motto “Meine
Ehre heisst Treue”, or “My Honor is Loyalty” is crisp and deeply etched
with approximately 50% backgrounding remaining. The reverse side is
matching etched in the handwriting of Himmler “In herzlicher Kameradschaft H.
Himmler”. The reverse ricasso is also matching etched with the Eickhorn
small double oval trademark. The circles contain the company name and
location (Carl Eickhorn / Solingen) with the squirrel being the style with the
bushy tail (Volume IV, pages 107 and 108 lower and 113, top). The fine
scabbard shell is straight as an arrow. The anodizing grades nearly 100%,
while the factory lacquer easily remains 99%! The scabbard mounts are
nicely matched both in look and condition. Typical of most Political upper
scabbard mounts, this one shows NO wear/age. However, contrary to the vast
majority of examples, this lower mount exhibits almost NO wear/age, with the
exception of a few light scratches and an extremely faint hit to the reverse
side. The ball shows NO wear! The early domehead side screws are
intact showing faint turning signs. Beautiful scabbard here!
Attached to the scabbard ring is the original back SS short hanger. The
leather is very pliable showing some edge wear and a few minor age cracks.
It is complete with the original retaining loop that perfectly matches the look
and condition of the hanger. The hanger hardware is the solid nickel type.
The snap clip is fully functional and unmarked. At the time of
writing this description, NO other militaria site is offering one for sale!
GREAT opportunity to acquire an original example! Strong excellent.
