E-442  Early Model 1936 SS Chained Dagger With Nickel Fittings and Type II Chain
Let me start off by saying this is the finest example of this type dagger I have ever owned in 50 years of collecting. This Model 1936 Chained SS Dagger represents an early production piece, having a painted scabbard and solid nickel fittings. The fittings throughout are the solid nickel variety. The crossguards retain beautiful smooth surfaces and crisp edges.  The accent grooves are extremely precise!  The beautiful ebony grip has a medium contour ridge displaying even thinning to the black finish in a few spots rendering a brownish/black appearance. This is natural to a piece that is nearly 75 years old. The grip-to-crossguard fit is very nice indeed! The grip itself is virtually flawless with no cracks, chips, damage or repairs. The perfect enameled SS runes button is nicely set, being the convex variety.  It is the style that has the SS runes touching the inner circle circumference. The nickel eagle is the upward pointing beak version showing outstanding definition with beautiful definition to the feathering . The textbook unmarked blade is bright and shiny!  The crossgraining rates nearly 100%!  The SS motto “Meine Ehre heist Treue” or “My Honor is Loyalty” is absolutely crisp with very nice background frosting. The blade is choice mint with the typical in and out lines.  As is the case with a textbook Model 1936 Chained SS Daggers, the reverse of the blade is void of any maker’s mark.  Finally, the blade shoulder-to-guard fit is outstanding!  The scabbard shell is straight throughout, while retaining at least 99% original black factory paint. NONE BETTER available anywhere.  The scabbard mounts are the early solid nickel type, having a beautiful matching look to the hilt fittings.  The five original domehead side screws are in place. One lower scabbard fitting screw shows mild wartime turning signs.  The center ramp is the sharp edged style, which is the early type, having crisp intertwined swastikas with the pebbled backgrounding. The burnishing to the center ramp and the chain grades at least 95%.  Beautiful!  The chain is the Type II style displaying a matching nickel finish (Volume IV, page 135).  The skull and SS sigrunne links have outstanding definition with the link connectors displaying very minor wear.  The first link of the upper chain is correctly and lightly stamped with the SS proof on the reverse side.  The snap clip is the correct closed leaf design that remains functional.  Early Type II daggers are in GREAT demand and almost impossible to find on today’s market in excellent condition. This museum-quality, top shelf, investment grade, goes way beyond that and I will rate at NEAR MINT.  Did I mention this is the finest example I've ever owned in 50 years of collecting?
