E-460 Unissued Mid-Period NSKK/SA Enlisted Man’s
Dagger With RZM Tag by RZM M7/10 1938 & J. A. Henckels Logo (Double Proofed)
As I’m sure everyone knows, unissued daggers are getting extremely
difficult to locate in today’s market, so I’m very pleased to offer you this
SCARCE example! The crossguards are the plated variety. Typical of
late-period pieces, they display extensive lifting/bubbling in and around the
obverse and reverse grip areas. However, the edges are crisp while the
remaining surface areas are smooth. The RZM grip is a real GEM, grading
mint. The grip has a light reddish-brown color having a high contour ridge
with a very nice vertical grain. The grip-to-crossguard fit is very nice
with mild shrinkage to the sides. The SA runes button is the flat style
displaying little to no wear/age. The grip eagle has a thin silver wash
that is almost all gone exposing a copper base with a very attractive greenish
hue appearance. It is the upward pointing beak style. Accompany the
dagger, but NOT attached to the grip, is the original RZM triangular tag.
It is complete and grades near mint with the exception of the rivet which is
missing. The obverse side of the tag displays the large NSKK emblem and
below is printed “NSKK / Dienstdolch / nach / hach Vorschrift” and directly
beneath is stamped M7/10. The reverse side has printed “RZM /
Reichszeugmeisterei /der / NSDAP” and beneath is black lines containing the
following number A No. 000182. The blade is mirror bright with 100%
crossgraining exhibiting very faint in and out marks. Gorgeous! The
edges and tip is factory crisp. The SA motto “Alles fur Deutschland”
is still crisp with approximately 60% backgrounding present. Additionally,
there are a couple of extremely faint smudges near the tip area. It
appears that there has been some cleaning to the blade by a previous owner.
The blade grades near mint! The reverse ricasso is matching etched with
the J. A. Henckels double proof mark. It consists of the large
double oval circles that traps the company name and location J.A. Henckels/Zwillingswerk/Solingen.
Finally, the very center of the inner circle contains the J. A. Henckels twins
trademark. Directly below the early logo is the RZM stamping consisting of
the small open RZM circle with burnished background with thinning to the
backgrounding. Underneath is the RZM code M7/10 and beneath the code is
the date of manufacture 1938. The heavy scabbard shell is totally straight
throughout! The shell was originally produced as an NSKK dagger with a
beautiful black paint, which was factory modified with a new coat of flat brown
paint. Over the years approximately 20% of the brown paint has been worn
away exposing the original black base. There are paint spiders to both
sides in addition to some bubbling to the obverse side. The shell is
fitted with factory new plated mounts showing very faint storage scratches.
The four domehead side screws remain factory new and untouched! A very
RARE item on today’s market! A MUST for the TYPE collector! Strong
excellent.
