E-471 Mid-Period NSKK Enlisted Man’s Dagger
Without Hanger by Carl Eickhorn (RZM M7/66 1939) Double Proof
This is a CHOICE example that I recently purchased. It truly
appears unissued; however, if it was issued, it was NOT worn. The fittings
throughout are the nickel plated style showing an attractive patina.
The plating to the guards grades 99%! In addition, the edges are crisp,
while the surfaces are smooth. There are a few spots experiencing faint
pimpling, which does not impact the condition or look! The RZM style grip
is a dark mahogany color with a high contour ridge. It exhibits NO real
wear/age. Beautiful! The grip-to-crossguard fit is outstanding, but
it does exhibit minor shrinkage. The SA runes button is masterly set
displaying NO chips or cracks. The grip eagle is the aluminum variety and
upon closer examination, it appears to be the high necked style. The
condition is unissued! The blade remains bright and shiny in addition to
having crisp edges and tip. The crossgraining grades nearly 100%!
The in and out runner marks are not quite the norm! There is some smudging
to the both sides in and around the guard areas. The SA motto “Alles fur
Deutschland” is precise and well executed, with 100% burnishing. The
reverse ricasso contains an Eickhorn double proof mark with the etching and
backgrounding perfectly matching the motto. The Carl Eickhorn RZM logo is
the style having the small, open RZM circle while beneath is the maker’s
code M 7/66 and directly underneath is the year of manufacture, 1939.
Directly below is the famous Eickhorn 1935-41 trademark. The blade easily
grades near mint-. The scabbard shell is totally straight throughout with
the exception of a very faint indentation to the middle of the obverse side.
The original black factory paint is gorgeous, grading 99%! The matching
nickel plated mounts retain a very nice untouched appearance with the plating
grading 100%! The four domehead side screws are intact and untouched.
A VERY FINE example! HARD to top this one!! Strong excellent.
