E-490d Unissued Fireman’s Short Bayonet With
Frog
This unissued example is right out of the woodwork! It was
purchased at a large “hotel” buy . I decided to leave it in “as
found” condition, with the exception of the blade which I have preserved with
Renaissance Wax which is utilized by some of the finest museums in the world!
The hilt exhibits NO carrying or storage wear with the surfaces remaining smooth
while the edges are crisp. The plating appears to grade 100% in addition to
having 100% of the original factory lacquer throughout the pommel and guard.
The black grip plates are mint being the bakelite variety. They are
retained with nickel plated steel rivets with obverse dressed heads. The
upper head displays a light coat of rust that can be cleaned, but I’ll leave
it up to the new owner. The blade is a FINE example, remaining very bright
with a striking nickel plating. The edges and tip remain crisp. The
obverse and reverse ricasso areas are void of any maker’s mark. The
blade grades mint-! The short scabbard shell is totally straight.
The original factory black paint is really very nice, grading 97%. In
addition, there are numerous paint spiders to both sides. Attached to the
scabbard is the original black leather frog that also remains in untouched
condition. There is some color wear to the frog edges, upper reverse side,
scabbard throat edge and in and around the bayonet lug edge. Sounds MUCH
worse than it appears! The frog easily grades near mint-. If you
only want one, this could be it! Near mint.
