E-491 Plain Short Dress Bayonet With Frog by
WKC
This example has excellent nickel plating remaining bright throughout. The
plating grades 99% with the minor loss appearing to the reverse side of the
lower guard highlight. The original felt plug is missing from the rifle
slot; however, the previous owner has replaced it with a new piece of red felt.
The mortise button is functional! The checkered black grips are in perfect
condition. They are retained with nickel plated steel rivets with obverse
dressed heads. NICE hilt here! The short blade is the stepped down
style having the narrow fuller and a nickel plated finish. The blade’s
nickel plated surface displays the normal in and out marks and faint minor
scratches that are a common find on Third Reich dress bayonets. The blade
edge, spine and tip are crisp. The blade grades near mint! A thin
medium brown leather washer is in place, grading strong excellent to near mint.
The obverse ricasso is stamped with the familiar WKC Knighthead logo.
Beneath are the company initials WKC, which are partially hidden by the washer.
NO worries! The scabbard is straight throughout. The original black
paint shows MUCH wear/age, grading 90%. The paint loss is the result of
paint chipping and a few minor scratches. The black patent leather frog
has seen better days! The leather exhibits extensive age crazing resulting
from attic storage. A SOLID example and priced accordingly.
Excellent.
