E-492a Fireman’s Long Bayonet With Frog by H & P / K
(Distributor)
The hilt of this example remains factory bright, having 100% of the nickel
plated finish. The edges retain their crispness, while the surfaces are
smooth. The black checkered grip plates are crisp and in perfect
condition. They are retained with solid nickel rivets having dressed
obverse heads that exhibit NO highlight wear, which is a rarity on this model
bayonet. Gorgeous hilt here! The long 9.75” blade is the style
having a wide fuller that remains bright and shiny. The nickel plated
finish grades 100% with faint hairline surface scratches appearing to both
sides. NO worries, for this is the norm on the vast majority of all nickel
plated blades. The blade, spine and tip edges are crisp. The
blade grades mint-! The obverse ricasso is marked with the distributor’s
initials (HP) over the letter K with all three letters housed in an upside down
triangle. The reverse ricasso is unadorned. A medium brown leather
washer is intact, grading near mint+. The scabbard is straight throughout,
showing very minor wear/age with paint spiders appearing on both the obverse and
reverse sides. The original black factory paint grades 95% with the wear
confined to the underneath portion of the frog. Typical of most period
black patent leather frogs, this one is unmarked and displays much age crazing
and surface cracks. Accordingly, the frog grades very good+ to excellent-.
A very collectible Fireman’s Bayonet with a SCARCE distributor marked blade.
Strong excellent.
