E-495 Short Third Reich Private Purchase Police
Clamshell Bayonet by Clemen & Jung
Unlike the vast majority of pieces that are encountered today, this
example is truly a Third Reich produced piece which is EXTREMELY scarce!
This quality example is equipped with heavy solid nickel fittings with an
outstanding silver finish that grades 95% with most of the wear appearing to the
backstrap area. The chiseling to the pommel, clamshell and guard is
outstanding! The eagle head pommel shows numerous hits to the top, edges
and sides. The grips are genuine stag exhibiting an outstanding mixture of
brown, tan and ivory colors with beautiful graining. They are retained
with nickel rivets with obverse dressed heads. The Police emblem is the
opened wreath style having mild surface wear to the highlights. The
clamshell has outstanding detail depicting the Weimar Eagle design. The
quillon has finely chiseled oak leaving on the obverse and the normally seen
halfway design on the reverse. As is the case with all private purchase
pieces, there are NO accountability numbers on the reverse guard side. The
9 7/8” nickel plated blade is mirror bright, having a wide fuller vice the
common thin fuller that we find on the vast majority of examples. There
are a few minor smudges, but nothing to be alarmed over! The blade edge
has one tiny hit that is only detectable on one side of the edge. The tip
and spine remain perfectly crisp. The in and out marks are mild! The
reverse ricasso is stamped with the Clemen & Jung trademark having the crown
over the shield with the letter Z in the center. The blade grades near
mint! The black leather shell is a very nice example! It contains
the two decorative lines that extend down the length of each side with the seam
appearing on the reverse side. Surprisingly, the leather shows minimal
wear/age grading near mint. The nickel scabbard fittings have scalloped
edges with both fittings displaying mild surface scratches. Additionally,
the lower fitting, to include the ball, exhibits a few tiny hits. Both
fittings are mounted to the shell via two small staples showing wear to the
highlights. The throat is the one-piece style. These short, private
purchase Third Reich produced examples are very difficult to locate in any
condition! Strong excellent.
