E-495b Long Weimar Police Clamshell Bayonet With
Frog by Carl Eickhorn
This example is right out of the woodwork and is complete with the
original frog. It is the long/uncut version having a 17” blade and
non-slotted pommel. The hilt is solid nickel, displaying outstanding
workmanship throughout. The heavy pommel exhibits some carrying wear to
the surfaces and edges while reflecting outstanding detail to the feathering.
The genuine stag grip plates are utterly beautiful being retained by obverse
dressed nickel rivets. The stag plates show beautifully toned browns,
black and tan colors with golden/ivory edges. The crossguard and quillon
end device reflects full raised oak leafing on the obverse while the reverse
side is half-smooth with NO accountability number present. The grip is
complete with a six sided nickel Weimar insignia exhibiting NO real highlight
wear/age. The matching nickel clamshell has the raised Prussian half-open
winged eagle exhibiting outstanding definition with minimal wear/age. The
nickel plated blade is the style with a wide fuller. The blade has had a
new edge applied along with a new tip leaving an unfinished appearance.
The remaining untouched areas are still bright. The in and out marks are
non-existent due to the sharpening. The reverse ricasso is stamped with
the larger double oval trademark that was utilized by Eickhorn during the 1930
and 1934 period. The double oval circles trap the firm’s name and
location Carl Eickhorn / Solingen. In the center lies the Eickhorn
standing squirrel with a serrated tail and below is the firm’s initials C.E.
The blade grades fair! The black leather scabbard displays MUCH wear/age
in the form of lumps, age cracks, bruises and dents. It is the style
decorated with the standard dual edge lines on both sides with a seam appearing
on the center reverse side. The solid nickel fittings are the scalloped
variety. The upper fitting is hidden by the frog, but appears to be in
very nice shape, having an age coating which should clean up nicely. The
scabbard throat is retained by a single large domehead screw mounted on the
center obverse side. The lower fitting has light taps to all sides in
addition to carrying scratches. They are retained by large nickel staples
with the lower one being very loose! The frog is black in color showing
MUCH wear/age being the four rivet style. It is NOT maker marked.
There is a small hole appearing to the upper portion of the frog that was
modified by the Veteran for wall mounting purposes. The frog grades very
good. A DECENT example for someone on a budget! Very good.
