Sniper Scope for the 98K Rifle
1.5 power “target long distance sight” (Zielfernrohr) – which
was mounted on the 98K rifle. The sight comes in its original oblong metal
storage case, and includes the side rail rifle mount with rings, as well as the
sight itself, and the rain shield for the small end of the sight. The sight
itself is in great condition – it is well marked (maker ordnance code “cnx”),
with about 99% of the parkerizing remaining. The reticle is still visible
through the sight, with a slight ring of grime around the outer edge of the
lens. The ordnance tan painted storage case has a hexagonal cross section,
though one side (the bottom) is wider than the others. A webbed olive drab strap
is attached to the top of the reverse, and can be secured over a peg on the
bottom of the case (serves also as a belt loop). One side of the lid is stamped
near the corner edge with the maker’s ordnance code “jvd”. The paint is in
great shape - 98% coverage! The lid’s hinge is mounted on one of the case’s
narrow sides - so it opens crossways (end to end), rather than from front to
back (or back to front). The hinge functions perfectly, as does the metal
tension latch fastener (the pull-down tab is spring loaded) that pulls down to
fit over a metal ball peg on the side of the case (opposite side from the
hinge). There is a small compartment inside the lid section with its own little
cover – a storage slot, which currently holds one of the rain shields for the
site (originally held the Klarinol cleaning cloth most likely, but this is no
longer present). Very nice example of the sniper sight for the 98K, with an
excellent case! Very desirable piece of equipment, and ever scarcer.
