F-206a Early Luftwaffe Bread Bag,
Well-Marked, Including Soldier’s Name
Very representative piece, with some light fading and minor soiling.
It is the standard blue canvas-like material used for Luftwaffe bread bags. It
includes the corner belt loops short tabs with “D” rings and a center strap.
The top curves of the loops are reinforced with smooth black leather. The small
“D” rings at the top of the bag’s backside are also present. The two black
leather straps on the underside of the bag’s top flap are present, as well.
All of the buttons are present. There is a cloth tag under the front flap that
has the owner’s name, Gerhard Matthäus, and Unit printed onto it. The
underside of the flap has an ink stamp that reads “L.B.A. 36” or
“Luftwaffe Betrieb Abteilung 36”. This basically translates “Luftwaffe
Service Unit” and the year of issue, 1936 (very early). Underneath this stamp
is another one, inside a rectangle, that reads “Ln. Abt. _ _ _” indicating
that it was for a Signals Unit (Luftwaffe Nachrichtentruppen Abteilung). An
intriguing example in better than sound condition overall!
