F-207  Switchboard for Field Phones
It’s amazing that some of these items still survive! The rectangular box is good quality wood, the corners locked with dovetailed joints. The usual German pattern of slotted metal plates for the tabs on the ends of the sling are present on each side. Below these are flush metal panels with swing-out release tabs – these allow the top two thirds of the box to be swung out, thus releasing an internal catch that normally holds the cover closed. The side part of the board has a nearly .5” thick panel of dark bakelite. On this are a whole series of paired terminal posts, with screw-down clamp nuts. The bakelite surface is inscribed with white “a” and “b” markings for each pair of large terminals. At the center is a red button, which is a release switch – on the side of the box, there is a row of depressable buttons; these were probably used for Morse transmission. The red button on the top center of the bakelite plate is the “re-set”; when pushed, the depressed side buttons return to the “out”, ready position. Below the side buttons is a flat metal bar, that slides vertically. Each end is secured with a screw down wheel nut. This bar protects a series of ten flip-down panels – the numbers one through ten are visible with the panels down (open). When the panels are up (closed), the flat bar keeps them from falling open accidentally and getting damaged. The switchboard box is about 13.75” long, about 7.25” wide, and about 6” high when in operating position (terminals would thus be at the bottom front). The wood is in excellent condition. The dust on the board is included for free, and the set comes with a number of switching cables with jacks – all in great condition.  Hard to come by!
