F-211c Fully Inert Stielhandgranate 1924 (“StiHgr.
24”) Stick Hand Grenade, Model 1924
The wooden “Stiel” (“stick”/“shaft”) handle on this
grenade was not varnished and so the wood remains a fairly light color, with a
very clear grain. There is a small dark blotch stain on the wood of the
shoulder, and a couple of side by side roundish marks on the bottom of the
handle just above the detonator cap, but overall its in really fine condition.
The warhead on this grenade will not unscrew. The head is painted a dark olive
green and over time, the green has slid into a slightly brownish hue. The
coverage is pretty good, but not, of course, without some scattered chipping and
scrape/wear spots, and some very minor oxidation. Black ink stenciling on the
side of the warhead gives a partially legible number. The top of the head is
maker stamped “43 fcc”, but this does not match with the maker code (and
date) stamped on the wooden handle’s shoulder: “wc 1943” – a
common occurrence. The metal detonator cap sleeve screws smoothly onto the
handle, with no wiggling when seated. The porcelain ball and string det cord
(i.e. the detonator pull cord) is present. A pretty nice example of this
increasingly hard to find accessory!
