Intended for the Afrikakorps originally, due to leather shortages
these were eventually used by all troops. This is a “field or collector
made” set, as some of the stitching is different from the original thick can
cotton thread. The way that some of the leather is cut also indicates to me that
this has been jury-rigged. There is discoloration to the leather, which is still
very soft, shows crazing to areas in the finish. The metal fittings look
original. Having said that, these would still look fine with all the gear
attached to it. Representative.
