F-217  DRP Issue Rifle Cleaning Kit M34 (Reiningungsgerät 34)
Rectangular shaped metal case with oval, hinged lids on each end. This example has the early tinned metal finish and it measures approximately 5.25” by 3.25” by .75”. This kit is complete with most of its original components, including the chain, brushes, oiler and cleaning pad. The case is stamped with the name GAppel (for Gustav Appel of Berlin-Spandau). The maker’s name is stamped onto the oiler as well, along with the date of production, 1935. What makes this example quite interesting is that it is serial numbered and marked “DRP” (for “Deutsche Reichs-Post”). Of note here is that the Postal Security Force was the first government organization to be issued the Kar98K, just after the Armed Forces. Quite interesting and in excellent condition!
