F-309b Veteran’s Flask
Neat piece made of aluminum in a somewhat disk shaped form, with a
screw on metal cap / shot cup at the top. It’s an item designed for humor, as
on side has a narrow, vertical glass window in it allowing the fill capacity of
the contents to be seen; this is titled “Barometer” and ticked from top to
bottom with a range of fill levels and the drinker’s likely condition at each.
Totally full is marked as “Wind…..Stille” (“no wind”); one
step lower is “quiet”, then “cheerful” (“merry”), then
“animated” and the near empty level is marked “storm”! The front
side of the flask has a colorful decal that notes: Parole Heimat !
(“Password Home!”). A metal eagle plate (with a helmeted soldier’s head in
the bottom roundel, has toned dark and shows some light oxidation. A small
placard mounted on the eagle notes: Reserve hat Ruh (the Reserve has a rest).
The flask is suspended from an alternating black, white and red (Nationalist
colors) twisted cord - though the red has faded to more of a pink, and the
cord is a bit soiled. The flask has some soiling, some nicks bangs and
scrapes – and the cap has a small dent – but everything is complete. Very
neat item!
