FL-26 Large “NF” Banner with Tassels,
Two-Sided (Mirrored Reverse)
This piece is borderline unique! We have now discovered (thanks
to Howard for the information!) that this is a worker's flag (mitarbeiter) and
that the NF stands for "New Frankfurter". The banner, which
measures approximately 4’ by 6’, was definitely intended to hang, as the
hoist with its built in sleeve for staff or pole is at the top and the fly end
has a large tassel made of blue wool yarns suspended from each corner – these
would have helped to keep the banner hanging evenly, without curling up in any
way. The fabric is a medium quality off white bunting; age has given it an
almost ivory cast. A large, light blue “X” extends from corner to corner,
but at its center is a black ring encircling a white roundel, in which is a
black stylized eagle – though the bottom is squared off. There is some
light soiling to the banner, but overall it is in very solid condition, and
quite unusual!
