FL-45 “As Found” NSKK Company Guidon
Technically, this is a pennant, but as the NSKK viewed themselves as
a descendant of the old Cavalry tradition, they referred to this as their Guidon
(generally a “fork tailed” pennant), the Cavalry designation of a pennant.
It is produced in red cloth (a bunting material) that has minor discoloration
only. There are areas where the moths got to the material, and I have
photographed this so take a good look at the photos for a better idea of this.
The upper and lower edges of the pennant are trimmed in silver tresse, which has
toned nicely to a fairly dark hue. The pennant is two-sided, each side having a
separately applied white cloth disc (moderate discoloration) with a single
piece, separately applied black cloth swastika. The diameter of the disc is
trimmed in black cloth. Each side also contains a Unit patch and an NSKK
driver’s diamond. The Unit patch is produced in blue wool with chain stitched
Unit information, in this example “16/M85” for the “16th Company, Motor
Regiment 85”. This is piped with a nicely toned, silver metal rope twist. The
driver’s diamonds are of black wool, with woven silver metal tresse and
machine embroidered NSKK eagle. These are also piped with a nicely toned, silver
metal rope twist. The hoist end has four of the original five metal snap clips
which were used for hanging from a pole. It measures 44.5” long by 22.5”
tall (113cm x 57cm). A truly unique item in “as-found” condition!
